Chairperson, Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission

Number of Vacancies:1

Pursuant to the provisions of Section 6 (4) of the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission Act, 2011 (No. 22 of 2011), and the first advertisement dated 26th September, 2011, the Selection Panel invites additional applications from suitably qualified persons for the position of Chairperson of the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission.

The functions of the Commissioners (including the Chairperson) shall be, among other things, to:-

(i) assist the Commission in policy formulation and ensure that the Commission and its staff, including the Secretary (to the Commission), perform their duties to the highest standards possible in accordance with the Act;

(ii) give strategic direction to the Commission in the performance of its functions as stipulated in the Act;

(iii) establish and maintain strategic linkages and partnerships in the rule of law and other governance sector;

(iv) deal with reports, complaints of abuse of power, impropriety and other forms of misconduct on the part of the Commission or its staff; and

(v) deal with reports of conduct amounting to maladministration, including but not limited to delay in the conduct of investigations and unreasonable invasion of privacy by the Commission or its staff.

For appointment as Chairperson of Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission, a person should:

(i) hold a degree from a university recognized in Kenya;

(ii) have knowledge and experience of not less than fifteen (15) years in any of the following fields:-
  • Ethics and governance
  • Audit
  • Law
  • Accounting
  • Public Administration
  • Fraud Investigation
  • Leadership
  • Public relations and media
  • Economics
  • Religious studies or philosophy
  • Social Studies
(iii) meet the requirements of Chapter Six of the Constitution; and

(iv) have had a distinguished career in his/her respective field.

Please Note:

(i) The following persons do not qualify for nomination and appointment as Chairperson of the Commission:

(a) a member of a governing body of a political party;

(b) an undischarged bankrupt;

(c) one who has been convicted of a felony; or

(d) has been removed from public office for contravening the provisions of the Constitution or any other law.

(ii) The names of all applicants and those shortlisted for each post shall be published in the print media after the closure of the advert.

(iii) The salary and benefits for these positions shall be determined by the Salaries and Remuneration Commission.

(iv) The chairperson and members of the Commission will be appointed for a single term of six

(6) years and are not eligible for re-appointment.

(v) Candidates may apply manually or online.
