Position Health Coordinator
Location Ethiopia, Somalia, or Kenya
About RI: Relief International (RI), is an international relief and development agency with cross-sectoral programs bridging relief and development, currently seeks a Health Coordinator.
Position Summary: The Health Coordinator will be responsible for the ongoing management support, continuing development, and daily supervision of all activities under RI's Health objective. The Health Coordinator, will assist in health programming including facility rehabilitation, capacity building and training, supply management, enhancing quality of primary health services, protection health activities in collaboration with village health committees, the Ministry of Health and international humanitarian health actors.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Conducts community assessments to identify critical requirements for program interventions with a particular focus on Refugees, IDPs, women, and vulnerable populations.
  • Under guidance of Response Team leader, maintains ongoing RI activities in primary health, with an emphasis on child and maternal health, health facility rehabilitation, capacity building and training of medical staff in PHC and mobile clinics.
  • Establish strong Links with Ministry of Health at federal and Regional level
  • Promotes and works to expand community capacity on Health, with sensitivity to the political and cultural context; maintains a positive and constructive relationship with the Village Health Committees.
  • Works closely with the Response Team leader to identify a strategy for the strengthening RI health activities in response to perceived needs indicated by communities and beneficiaries.
  • Works with Response Team leader to plan and implement emergency interventions in beneficiary communities as needed.
  • Assist in the selection and training of qualified health program field staff, complies with Ministry of Health requirements for engaging medical staff.
  • Collaborates with the community recognized health authorities and relevant international health agencies for the development of an approved training curriculum and program design.
  • Participates actively with interagency Health and related forums on behalf of RI.
  • Works with the Country Team, operations, finance, and security staff to ensure that all program activities adhere to RI and international standards.
  • To meet with different stakeholders from civil society and government to assess the current situation in the region as well as review literature available on the care practices, FSL and WASH context
  • Conducts Health activities with the utmost sensitivity for the safety and well-being of beneficiaries and national staff and with regard to the political context.
  • Provides technical support to qualified medical staff, organizing training sessions for medical assistants, nurses, vaccinators.
  • Ensures that RI provides quality services that meet Sphere and other international standards.
  • Provide input for all Health and Health-inclusive proposals, reports, assessments, and research in consultation with the Senior Management Team, Country Office, and Headquarters.
  • Submits monthly and quarterly reports by collection of information and data from the field, data analysis, and report documentation to Health Coordinator.
  • Oversees sector budget and personnel in line with RI field procedures and Code of Conduct.
  • Work closely with the Health Coordinator to determine the medical and training needs of the programs within the scope of the grants.
  • Ability to travel for RI, if necessary

    QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Experience in overseas programs (at least 3 years) relating to primary health care, maternal and child health, and communicable diseases.
  • Experience (5 years) developing and implementing Health sector activities.
  • Minimum medical degree; preferably with a Master's in Public Health
  • Previous experience conducting training of medical staff; Previous experience with development of training curriculums
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment and make decisions independently.
  • Logistical planning and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience with data collection and analysis.
  • Experience living and working in dynamic, insecure environments and with local communities.
  • Ability to live and function at a high capacity within a collaborative organizational structure.
  • Ability to live and work from within a remote post.
  • Understanding of the political and cultural context in the Horn of Africa and a strong interest in working in the region
  • Demonstrated written and oral communication skills (must be able to provide an independently created and relevant writing sample).
  • Demonstrated statistical survey, analysis, and presentation skills (must be able to provide an independently created a relevant statistical report sample).
  • Demonstrated budget and expense management skills.
