Finance and Administration Manager

Salary range: Ksh. 249,900 – 407,200 p.m.

Practical Action is an international development agency working with poor communities to help them choose and use technology to improve their lives today and in generations to come.

We are seeking a highly self-motivated, results-oriented and proactive team player to Head our Finance and Administration Department.

This senior management position will be responsible for ensuring efficient, timely and accurate financial, administrative and logistical functions of Practical Action regional office. The position will be based in Nairobi.

The ideal candidate must have a strong track record of line managing and leading a multi-disciplinary team; sound knowledge of accounting systems and procedures with experience in management of donor reports especially EC/ECHO and USAID; proven capacity to develop and implement strategic and annual operating plans; experience in developing and operationalizing financial policies.

In addition, s/he will have ability to design and deliver capacity building training for programme staff and partners on finance matters in relation to donor contracts; ability to lead and motivate a team, delegate tasks effectively and set clear performance targets.

The Finance and Administration Manager will
  • lead the development and implementation of financial plans and management for the regional office;
  • develop and maintain financial systems for the office;
  • provide sound and timely advise to the Regional Director on matters with financial implications to the regional office;
  • provide controllership function to ensure management of finances in accordance with policies, procedures and GAAP;
  • lead the preparation of financial projections and budgets for the regional office;
  • manage annual and project specific audits;
  • ensure timely and accurate processing of all financial transactions;
  • S/he will also be responsible for providing financial support to programme staff during design of project proposal budgets and negotiate donor contracts;
  • actively participate in donor liaison;
  • ensure accurate and timely preparation of financial reports in line with relevant requirements;
  • set up accounting systems for the Consulting Arm of the organization, provide advise on financial matters to ensure maximization of surplus and adherence to group policies and procedures;
  • S/he will also be responsible for risk management of the regional office to ensure prevention of financial loss due to fraud or error, adequate insurance of assets, maintenance and safekeeping of records and compliance with all legal, regulatory and audit requirements.
  • In addition, s/he will play liaison role with the UK office, field offices staff and partners on all financial and administrative matters.
Requirements

The successful candidate should hold a Master’s degree in Finance or business related field in addition to Bachelor’s degree in Accounting; full CPA (K) or ACCA or equivalent professional qualification; must be a member of a professional body; must have at least seven (7) years relevant work experience three (3) of which should have been in a similar management position in an international NGO responsible for financial management.
