Duties
  • Develop promotional materials for marketing which include: Press Releases, Newspaper Adverts, fliers, Posters, Brochures, T-shirts, Table Tents, Banners, etc.
  • Preparation of large format printing for bill boards and signages and liaising with the outdoor advertising companies to ensure the billboards is put up.
  • Ensure timely placement of advertisement orders by liaising with the dailies on adverts to be put on newspapers.
  • Developing design briefs by gathering information and data to clarify design issues.
  • Thinking creatively to produce new ideas, contributing ideas and design artwork to the overall task.
  • Keeping abreast of developments in IT, particularly design programs.
  • Working in consultation with the website designer and marketing specialists.
  • Use a wide range of media, including photography and computer aided design to ensure production of accurate and high quality work
  • Brainstorming and mocking up design ideas on better designs.
  • Enquire on the correct specifications of the items and their right images.
  • Uphold the company’s brand image and ensure accuracy of all jobs done.
  • Preparing and printing of staff identification cards, business cards, letter heads and complimentary slips.
  • Any other duties assigned by the management.
Qualification
  • Minimum degree or diploma in graphic design
  • Previous internship in graphic design will be an added advantage

Competition for the Design of a Logo for the Witness Protection Agency -opportunity in Kenya

Introduction

The Kenya Witness Protection Agency is a body corporate established pursuant to Section 3A of the Kenya Witness Protection Act, Cap 79 Laws of Kenya.

The Agency’s mandate is derived from Section 3(b) (1), of the Witness Protection Act Cap 79 Laws of Kenya which confers power on the Agency to offer special protection on behalf of the State to intimidated and threatened witnesses and related persons and provide framework and procedure for giving this special protection.

The functions of the Agency in terms of Section 3C of the Act are:
  • Establish and maintain a Witness Protection Programme
  • Determine the criteria for the admission to and removal from the witness protection Programme
  • Determine the type of protection measure to be applied.
  • Advise any Government Ministry, Department, Agency or any other person on the adoption of strategies and measures on Witness Protection
  • Perform such other functions as may be necessary for the better carrying out of the Act
The overall aim of the Agency is to enhance the Rule of Law & Good Governance by facilitating access to justice for threatened and intimidated witnesses thus reducing impunity.

Logo Design

The Agency invites artistic individuals to design a logo that depict/represent his/her understanding of the Witness Protection Agency. 

Please note that the Agency color theme is light purple and should be incorporated in the design.

The design is to be submitted as a drawing as well as the soft copy in graphics.

Winning Designs

The first three (1-3) designs chosen will be awarded cash prize as follows:

1. The 1st winning design – Ksh. 100,000

2. The 2nd winning design – Ksh. 75,000

3. The 3rd winning design – Ksh. 50,000

You have a thirst for knowledge which you satisfy by familiarizing yourself with the clients’ products/services, target audience and their competitors’ activities. 

You are very timely in developing suitable responses to feedback from agency staff and clients. You stand out in presenting ideas to colleagues and clients. 

As you will oversee campaigns from the production stage to completion, you must be prepared to work under pressure and on often tight deadlines. Must be a qualified driver.

Graphic Designer

You will produce design solutions to communicate clients messages with high visual impact aimed at giving clients a visual ‘brand’.

Introduction

The National Biosafety Authority (NBA) was established pursuant to the provisions of the Biosafety Act No 2, and came into operation on 12th February, 2009 with an overarching mandate of exercising general supervision and control over the transfer, handling and use of genetically modified organisms with a view to ensuring safety of human and animal health as well as the provision of an adequate level of protection of the environment.

NBA is the competent institution of the Government of the Republic of Kenya to regulate all activities involving GMOs in food, feed, research, industry, trade and environmental release.

Vision: A world class biosafety agency

Mission: To ensure safe development, transfer, handling and use of genetically modified organisms

Core Values: In the implementation of the Authority’s Strategic Plan and achieving its mandate, the Authority is guided by the following core values:

a) Integrity;

b) Professionalism;

Functions of the National Biosafety Authority

The functions of the NBA as provided for by the Biosafety Act 2009 include:-

a) To consider and determine applications for approval for the transfer, handling and use of genetically modified organisms(GMOs), and related activities in accordance with the provisions of this Act;

b) To coordinate, monitor and assess activities relating to the safe transfer, handling and use of genetically modified organism in order to ensure that such activities do not have adverse effect on human health and the environment;

c) To co-ordinate research and surveys in matters relating to the safe development, transfer, handling and use of genetically modified organisms, and to collect, collate and disseminate information about the findings of such research, investigation or survey;

d) To identify national requirements for manpower development and capacity building in biosafety;

e) To advise the Government on legislative and other measures relating to the safe transfer, handling and use of genetically modified organisms;

f) To Promote awareness and education among the general public in matters relating to biosafety;

g) To establish and maintain a biosafety clearing house to serve as a means through which information is made available facilitate the exchange of scientific, technical, environmental and legal information and experience with, living modified organisms; and

h) Perform any other function which is incidental to the performance of any of the foregoing functions.

Towards the definition of an image and brand for the Authority, NBA wishes to develop a logo for the authority through a competition open to the general public

Interested persons are invited to participate in the competition by designing a logo which best interprets the mandate and functions of the Authority.

The best three entries will be rewarded in Kenya shillings, as indicated here below.
  • Best entry 100,000.00
  • 1st Runner up 75,000.00
  • 2nd Runner up 50,000.00
The following terms and conditions will apply.

1. The competition is open to the general public.

2. Any material, graphic, software or otherwise submitted by the entrant in the competition, shall belong to and remain the property of National Biosafety Authority

3. A panel of experts will be appointed to evaluate the submissions and select the best three entries.

4. The decision by the panel of experts will be final.

5. NBA will communicate the outcome of the competition to all entrants.

Duties and Responsibilities:

The United Nations Office at Nairobi (UNON) is the UN headquarters in Africa and the representative office of the Secretary-General. We support programme implementation of the UN Environment Programme (UNEP) and the UN Human Settlements Programme (UN-HABITAT) globally, as well as other UN offices in Kenya, by providing administrative, conference and information services (www.unon.org).

These posts are located in the Printing and Publishing Section, Division of Conference Services (DCS), Under the direct supervision of Deputy Chief, Desk Publishing Unit and general direction by the Chief of Publishing Section, the Graphic Arts Assistant will be responsible for the following duties:
  1. Participating in initial meetings with clients to discuss potential design projects.
  2. Independently undertaking design assignments, including high priority requests, for a variety of UN sponsored activities.
  3. Conceptualizing and developing design proposals for review by clients, which may include statistical information, photographic, illustrative or more abstract graphic solutions.
  4. Preparing all approved designs in electronic format for final review before printing; technically reviewing color for appropriate type and profile and pre-press proofs as required.
  5. Providing guidance and support throughout the project production process; coordinating and following up with clients and other relevant parties and ensuring that project is on schedule and reporting when a project is behind schedule.
  6. Performing other related work as required.
Competencies: 

Professionalism: Knowledge of standard industry production related to graphic arts and printing processes, including desktop publishing, design and layout, knowledge of digital photo retouching, page layout and digital illustration creation.

Planning& Organizing: Develops clear goals that are consistent with agreed strategies; identifies priority activities and assignments;

Qualifications:

Education: Completion of Secondary school education is required. Diploma training in Graphic Art is desirable.

Experience: At least 4 years of experience in publications production, including desktop publishing, graphic design and layout, or related area.

Language: English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the post advertised, fluency in oral and written English is required.

Other Skills: 
  • Experience Adobe Illustrator is desirable
  • Good graphic art skills and ability to independently develop creative designs and produce high quality ready to print product is desirable
Candidates will be required to sit for a practical hands-on test in Adobe Creative Suite 5 to determine their ability to use InDesign, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, and Adobe Acrobat.

Candidates are required to come to the interview with past native file Adobe CS projects, not less than ten (10), they built by themselves alone (no teamwork project please) that incorporate Adobe InDesign, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator and Adobe Acrobat to allow the interview panel to review them. Graphic Designer - Advertising Industry-Job in Kenya


Our client in the Advertising Industry, producing promotional material is looking for an experiencedGraphic Designer.

Reporting to the Product Development Manager, the Graphic Designer will be responsible for ensuring timely development of artworks and production of samples according to client’s specifications.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Ensure timely development of artworks
  • Ensure color separations are done and submitted for printing and artworks forwarded for embroidery if any
  • Follow up to ensure timely production of samples
  • Make adjustments and/correction on artworks for client’s approval or production
  • Make adjustments or provide additional negatives for printing
  • Work in conjunction with the product development manager in developing new items and ideas.
Knowledge, Skills and Experience
  • At least a Diploma in Graphic Design
  • Should have basic drawing skills
  • Computer literate and familiar with design software i.e. Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, Indesign and Corel Draw.
  • Minimum one year experience in developing and creating artworks
  • Must have creative flair
  • Must be able to work within a team
  • Should have good communication skills and be keen on detail
  • Should be able to translate briefs from clients
  • Should be flexible in terms of ideas, concepts and working hours.
