Senior Systems Administrator-(Safaricom )- Job in Kenya

Senior Systems Administrator 

Ref: TECHNICAL_SSA__March_2012

Reporting to the Principal System’s Administrator, the job holder will be required to provide technical expertise and support to Safaricom in the field of system administration and design.

The job holder’s key responsibilities will be to:
  • Provide Microsoft Windows and Linux platform management, configuration, design and expertise which will include Active Directory and Exchange as well as Windows servers of various flavors and Network Attached Storage.
  • Monitor server performance and availability.
  • Ensure Windows/Linux server availability compliance to Service Level Agreements.
  • Address operational systems issues including file and share permissions, user accounts and installing server based applications.
  • Provide metrics for capacity management purposes.
  • Monitor server load and implement load balancing where appropriate.
  • Support and maintain; Exchange 2010 Email Server, MS 2008 Active Directory and MS 2008 Group policy.
  • Problem resolution and escalation of Windows/Linux server, storage, backup and Storage issues.

  • Support and installation of server and storage systems for new projects
  • To provide backup, hardware and software assurance.
  • Maintenance of systems documentation and procedures.
  • Technical support for assigned company initiatives and projects. Participation in feasibility studies and testing for new IT infrastructure components
  • Implement and maintain system standards and procedures on system related issues.
  • Monitor, administer and maintain system security.
  • Conduct proper documentation inventory of the system hardware and software.
The ideal candidate should possess the following skills & competencies:
  • Degree in Computer Science or equivalent.
  • Knowledge of Windows Server 2003/2008, RHEL/SUSE, NAS, TCP/IP networking.
  • Minimum Windows 2003 MCSE certification; UNIX, Linux and Exchange 2007/2010 certification will be added advantage.
  • 4 years experience as systems administrator, in a multifaceted business environment with integrated/mixed Windows and Linux server environment preferably in a telecommunication environment.
  • System Administration Techniques – understanding Operating Systems Performance, Windows, Linux, Storage and Backup enterprise hardware and storage.
  • Attention to details and analytical thinking.

  • Issuing New Sims to all Operations Countries after verifying the site list. Responsible for creation of P0 by SCM and delivery of Sims by Airtel.
  • Tracking sites where EB is disconnected and reconnected, with the reasons for the disconnection and the time taken for reconnection.
  • Responsible for continuous enhancement in the NOC process and procedures to the NOC project associates and Operations Country team.
Qualifications
  • Minimum Bachelor degree (Electronics & Communications).
  • 5 to 8 years working experience in Network Function with at least last 2 years experience in handling passive telecom Infrastructure.
  • Knowledge of English (Written and Spoken), a must. French will be additional advantage.

  • Tracking Rental DG which is hired in Opco in case main DG has gone faulty.
  • Responsible for sharing daily dashboard with all the Operation Countries team on daily basis.

  • 2 - 4 years working experience in a Network Function with at least last lyear experience in handling passive telecom Infrastructure.

About this job

Linux System Administrator, reporting to the Technical Director, develops and maintains all of Reelforge operational systems.

The System Administrator will be responsible for :-

  • Working knowledge of Bourne shell scripting;
  • Knowledge of standard backup infrastructures;

ICT Specialist-Arid Lands Information Network (ALIN) Job in Kenya


The Arid Lands Information Network (ALIN), an International NGO whose mission is to improve the livelihoods of arid lands communities in East Africa through delivery of practical information using modern technologies wishes to recruit a dynamic, energetic and committed person to join its team, as an ICT Specialist.

Key duties and responsibilities

Reporting to the Regional Director, the incumbent will be responsible for smooth running of a regional ICT infrastructure for enabling access to knowledge.

In addition, s/he will perform the following roles;
  • Support the smooth running of ALIN’s ICT infrastructure at Head Office and Maarifa Centres
  • Support the development of ICT platforms for information delivery and knowledge management
  • Propose and innovative ways in which social media can be used for information delivery
  • Develop ICT skills and talents among rural communities
  • Develop M & E tools for information and knowledge use
  • Develop an outreach program for delivery of information products to rural communities
  • Build and maintain a partnership mechanism with key stakeholders in the ICT arena.
  • Participate in resource mobilization.
Required qualifications and experience
  • A minimum of a degree in Information Technology with practical skills in Information Management and ICTs.
  • Proficiency in the use of ICT particularly in development of web‐based solutions, maintenance of websites and working with databases.
  • At least three years experience in communication and ICTs.
  • Understanding and experience of planning, budgeting, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of people focused development projects and programs.
  • Experience in business plan and report writing will be an added advantage.
  • Above average use of MS Office packages and office automation solutions
  • Relevant postgraduate or industrial certifications in ICTs will be an added advantage

Arid Lands Information Network (ALIN), an International NGO facilitating information and knowledge exchange between /informediaries/ in the arid lands of Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania wishes to recruit a to recruit a dynamic, energetic and committed individualsICT trainers.

The trainings will be conducted through ALIN's Maarifa (Knowledge) centres spread in the Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania. The trainers will undergo an initial induction and will be conduct free computers and Internet training to members of the public at Maarifa centres are located in the following areas

Kenya: Isinya in Kajiado, Nguruman in Magadi, Ng'arua in Nyahururu, Marigat in Baringo, Kyuso in Mwingi, Mutomo in Kitui, Ndhiwa in Homa Bay

Uganda: Koro and Awach in Gulu

Tanzania: Shinyanga and Kayanga in Karagwe

Desired Qualification, skills and experience
  • A Degree or Diploma in related field.
  • Relevant Computer training from a recognised institution (ICDL desirable).
  • Excellent knowledge of MS Office, Explorer
  • Demonstrated skills and experience in delivering a training package.
  • Mature, responsible and a person of high integrity
  • Prepared to travel stay in at the Maarifa centre for a period of not less than 3 months
  • Knowledge of a local languages where Maarifa is located
  • Able to work under minimal supervision
