Company Secretary, Mills Manager, RIU Coordinator and Community Liaison & Communications Officer - (State Corporation)-Jobs in Kenya

Our client, a well established State Corporation is seeking to recruit the following positions to join its senior management team.

Company Secretary

Ref: MWA/CS/09/11

Reporting to the Managing Director, the successful candidate will be responsible for advising the Corporation on legal matters and ensuring safe custody of all legal records.

She/he will provide secretarial services to both management and the Board of Directors.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provides legal advice to management and the Board to ensure statutory compliance with existing law and regulatory requirements
  • Prepares and arranges all Board meetings and those of its committees
  • Facilitate preparation of Board charter and ensures accurate recording and timely dissemination of Board minutes.
  • Advises the Board on good corporate governance practices including government guidelines and requirements
  • Facilitates settlement of legal disputes between various stakeholders including customers and the general public.
  • Represents the corporation in civil, commercial and/or criminal litigation and manage legal outsourcing where necessary.
  • Reviews and advises on due diligence reports, consultancy reports and other reports from legal consultants;
  • Drafts and vets legal documents including contracts, leases, SLAs and prepare legal opinions on issues touching on the Corporation’s mandate and operations;
  • Maintains an up to date records of all gazetted matters relating to the Corporation.
  • Participates in special projects and assignments of strategic importance to the organization
Qualification, Experience & Skills
  • A Bachelor’s degree in law from a recognized university;
  • Masters Degree in Law or Business Administration will be an added advantage;
  • Advocate of the High Court of Kenya and must possess a current Practicing certificate;
  • Must be a Certified Public Secretary (CPS-K) and a full member of ICPSK
  • At least five (5) years relevant experience as a company Secretary or legal manager.
  • Good knowledge and experience in commercial law and labour laws; and
  • Sound analytical, communication and report writing skills.
Manager Mills

Ref: MWA/MM/09/11

Reporting to the Managing Director, the Manager Mills will head the re-structured business unit towards achieving world class rice milling standards and operational excellence.

She/he will be responsible for Plant Operations from production & production planning, procurement, marketing, maintenance, logistics to managing staff.

She/he will ensure that the company delivers the expected annual turnover and production targets.

Key Responsibilities
  • Overall responsibility for running the mill and maintenance of the plant operations
  • Develop & implement medium – term growth strategies and strong operating process and mechanisms for sustained performance.
  • Supervision of mechanical and engineering aspects.
  • Planning and implementation of budgets and production schedules
  • Coordinating dispatches
  • Day to day administration and personnel issues
Qualification, Experience & Skills
  • Degree in Business field
  • Postgraduate qualification will be added advantage
  • Seven (7) years, 3 years of which should have been in senior management position.
  • Excellent managerial and decision making skills
  • Strong marketing/ business development acumen
  • Good negotiation and analytical skills,
  • Strong administrative, communication and people management skills,
  • Proven investment management ability.
  • Strong ethical & professional values, autonomous & result oriented with a clear determination to succeed.
RIU Coordinator

Ref: MWA/RIUC/09/11

Terms of service: 1 year contract with a possibility of extension

Reporting to the Managing Director, the Resettlement Implementation Unit Co-coordinator will be responsible for effective and efficient management of RIU program including program planning, implementation, coordination and supervision.

She/he will ensure effective communication and close engagement with the project – affected communities in addition to reporting according to project administration and M&E guidelines.

Qualification, Experience & Skills
  • Have a degree in Social Sciences or Engineering related field
  • Masters degree will be an added advantage
  • At least 15 years professional experience working with communities
  • Experience in project management with both management and financial responsibility
  • Versed with the Laws of Kenya, particularly those relating to property and good understanding of inter- relationships between Government institutions at all levels of Administration.
  • Strong financial management and conversant with electronic data management
  • Outgoing and familiar with the languages of the project area (Meru, Embu, Akamba, and Kikuyu).
Community Liaison and Communications Officer

Ref: MWA/CCO/09/11

Terms of service: 1 year contract with a possibility of extension

Reporting to the Socio-Economist, the position holder will manage and ensure successful implementation of field activities including household surveys, field observations and public meetings.

She/he will identify and advise the organization on the general development and social issues affecting the PAPs as well as vulnerable groups.

Under the direction of the socio-economist, she/he will take an active role in the design and implementation of interventions and collaborate with consultants hired specifically for this task.

She/he will supervise the case officers, develop a database of the project affected persons and submit progress reports on a monthly basis.

Qualification, Experience & Skills
  • Degree in Social Sciences preferably Sociology or Psychology
  • Postgraduate qualification will be added advantage
  • At least 5 years professional experience in community based projects or Community based organizations.
  • Experienced in dealing with societal issues such as gender and development, vulnerable groups, cultural diversity, ethnic minorities and households with literacy challenges
  • Good networking and report writing skills
